Unlocking your potential
Support for Learning
Harrow High School and Sports College strongly believes in the principles of an inclusive education for all. Every young person is an individual with different interests, abilities, needs and experiences and is therefore provided with a personalised and tailored educational experience that releases their full potential.
A full programme of extension activities and opportunities to accelerate learning is provided for young people with particular gifts and talents.
At the beginning of Year 7, an induction programme is provided for all learners that facilitates the transition from middle to high school. Induction is also used to identify learners who would benefit from extra help to ensure they settle and begin enjoying and achieving quickly. There is also a range of PE activities and a Summer Term provided by the school at the end of Year 6 to ease transition.
Tutors play an invaluable role in supporting learning by being responsible for monitoring learners’ progress and giving advice and guidance on organising work and setting personal targets. Tutors also play a leading role in contributing towards the personal development and well-being of each young person in the tutor group.
We are committed to providing effective and appropriate support for learning for those young people with special educational needs. A range of additional services is provided to support learning including careers guidance and mentoring. Members of the Educational Support Team work alongside young people and their teachers to make sure the curriculum is accessible and enables each individual to achieve their full potential.
Support for learning is personalised and is tailored around the individual’s needs. Additional help with learning can range from in-class support to one to one work or can even be provided through our extended study support programme to which every individual has an entitlement.
Our learners also have access to a growing range of resources to enable them to complete their work successfully including five ICT suites and a multi-media library.
