Careers-pageCareers education is an important focus within the curriculum at Harrow High School. Learners are encouraged to develop self-awareness of their skills and abilities. The defined careers education package in place is supplemented by the work in SMSC and various subjects. A work related learning programme in Year 10 leads to real life work experience placements. In Year 11 learners are supported to consider their options and assisted to apply for further education or apprenticeships. In Year 13 learners are supported with university or employment applications.

Harrow High School works with CFBT Advice and Guidance to deliver careers information, advice and guidance to young people. The careers adviser within the school is Rachel Danso.

Year 12/13

  • University applications

Help and advice is available to all learners from school staff and careers adviser.

This package supports young people and adults with an inspiring online careers resource that is ideal to help learners with their careers research. Careerscape offers further in-depth information on careers such as real-life case studies, video footage of people at work, photographs and sound clips. Year 11

  • Mock Interview Day

This careers event is an opportunity for learners to gain experience of real-world interviewing. The interviewers are local business professionals and school governors.

  • Work Experience

Harrow High School has a 2 week work experience programme, for the whole year group who will be sent out on placements. Year 9

  • Pathways Evening

You may feel as though you have only just got used to life at secondary school and now someone is asking you to choose your Key Stage 4 subjects. This evening will help Year 9 learners and their parents choose what subjects to study in Year 10.

Year 7/8

  • Enterprise Event

Harrow High School holds separate dedicated Enterprise Day events for each year group, organised by the schools Year 12 Business learners, Business teachers and Mrs Motiwala. The Enterprise days are a fun and interactive way for learners to experience a range of Enterprise skills in a practical fashion, using team work and problem-solving to complete a series of challenges. The learners are introduced to the way in which companies are run, including positions within the company, costing, including making a profit and how to work effectively in a team.

This is an innovative programme that introduces Key Stage 3 learners to their options and supports their subject choice and career path. The online programme provides pupils with a profiling quiz which identifies personal skills and compares them with the skills they need to study GCSE and Diploma subjects at Key Stage 4.
