Music Week 4 – Bach

Johan Sebastian Bach was a German composer of the Baroque Period (approx. 1600-1750). His work is known for both instrumental compositions such as the Brandenburg Concertos and Goldberg Variations as well as vocal pieces such as Mass in B minor. Our playlist this week focuses more on his instrumental work although some of the vocal pieces are featured.

His work is based upon a traditional Germanic style of harmony whilst incorporating a wider variety of rhythm, form and texture. He is best known for multiple arrangements of pieces such as Air on G String which popularised classical music in the later part of the 20th century.
