On Wednesday 11th December 2019, Year 8 learners attended the first ever Training session organised for learners. During the day, they took part in a carousel of six workshops, which covered aspects of independent learning in English, Maths and Science and elements of Personal development (Wellbeing and First Aid).
Among the activities featured was a session on ‘Studying with the Brain in Mind’ delivered by ‘InnerDrive’. Learners were taught how to get the most out of their brain during revision, ways in which they could study independently, and self-regulate and manage their time through organisation. Miss Smith, Head of Year 8 led a workshop on Wellbeing, managing, and handling stressful situations. Learners were also equipped with vital life-saving skills by the St John Ambulance. The Maths, English and Science teachers delivered interactive sessions where learners explored different ways they could use Knowledge Organisers to create quizzes and revision mats which were then used to answer Examination questions.
Learner feedback was extremely positive and learners saw the real benefits of the various activities they participated in:
”It was wonderful to learn how to use the Knowledge Organiser to find useful knowledge that I needed to answer questions” while another commented: ”I enjoyed learning how to give First Aid for the first time”.
Special thanks go to staff who led sessions and to the Year 8 group for displaying excellent behaviour and engaging well with the activities.
A similar day has been organised for Year 7 learners and will take place on Wednesday 4th March 2020.
