10th July 2020
I hope you are all well and keeping safe.
As you will be aware, the government has announced that as of September, schools will be open again for learners from all year groups and attendance will be compulsory. I can confirm that barring any change in government policy or local restrictions, this will apply to Harrow High School.
We are really looking forward to having all our learners back in full-time and we know from the sessions we have been running just how much learners are missing the normality of school life. We are also aware that learners will have completed differing amounts of work over the lockdown and we have made a number of changes to our curriculum planning to promote excellent learning and progress for all. We will also be running a wide variety of interventions for learners who need this and more details of that will follow when we understand how government funding will be allocated to support this.
We also recognise how difficult this time will have been for many young people and plans are in place to support their transition back into ‘normal’ schooling from September. If you do have specific concerns about your son or daughter, please do contact their Standards and Achievement leader directly to discuss this. Contact details follow this letter.
On an operational level, the government has issued a set of advice and guidance on how
schools can achieve this as safely as possible and we will be adhering to this guidance when we open. The majority of this guidance relates to the creation of year group ‘bubbles’ between which there should be minimal contact and minimising movement around the school. It also includes staggered starts and dismissals for different year groups.
We are currently working to finalise our operational plans in line with this. Whilst I cannot give you the final details at this stage, you need to be aware that there will be some small changes to timings of the school day for different year groups and that we may need to have a staggered start to the year, rather than all year groups arriving on the first day of term.
We will be updating this information on Friday 17th July to allow you as much time as possible to plan for this in the new school year and further updates will follow throughout the summer
