Content: You will build on and develop knowledge and skills gained at GCSE level with a wide range of interesting and engaging literary and non-fiction texts and you will have the opportunity to undertake literary and linguistic study together, in a clear and coherent way.
The set text lists for the literary genres of narrative fiction, poetry and drama include, alongside familiar classics of each genre, new, challenging and contemporary choices. These include The Great Gatsby, the poetry of Eavan Boland and Our Country’s Good.
You will study an exciting anthology of non-fiction texts including a wide range of written, spoken and multimodal texts drawn from a variety of historical and contemporary sources.
You will have the opportunity to produce your own original and creative writing.
At A level, there is a free choice of text for comparison with a set text (from a list of 12 including texts from Truman Capote, George Orwell, Solomon Northrop and Bill Bryson) for non-examined assessment, encouraging you to develop your independent interests in language and literature.
